POF P308 Edge SPR followed me home

Postby ejsg19 » Fri Mar 09, 2018 9:25 pm

Brought home my first "heavy" AR yesterday. Went a little overboard and decided to give Patriot Ordnance a try. Made in Pheonix, and has some interesting features to it. This one is in Burnt Bronze finish, the action glides like it is on greased train tracks, and the trigger seems excellent out of the box.

Dillon 308 dies, Starline Brass, and probably Sierra Gameking 165 and 180 grain bullets will be my first work ups. It is an 18.5'' barrel with a 1-10 twist.

I'd post a picture but I haven't hosted a picture since before photobucket got weird. What service do we all use to post pictures to forums nowadays?

I'm just excited to have a new reloading and shooting project, thought I'd share.

Don't post much anymore, the family has gone from me and 1911nurse, to a total of 5 now. Latest one was born 3 weeks ago. Amazing where the time gets focused anymore.

I use Fototime (~$25/year) for photo hosting. Works great.
Rifle sounds cool, would hope you can post photos.
What do we want?
Time travel.
When do we want it?
It's irrelevant.

No need to post it elsewhere if you don't want to - just upload it as an attachment here :D

Interesting...

.jpg (and .jpeg) files should work - the image below is one.

I just added a couple extensions to the server that shouldn't have anything to do with the ability to upload a jpg / jpeg files, but please try again if you don't mind...

Looking pretty hard at using a Burris XTR II 1-8 although I'm not a Burris person. The choices in the 1-8x type of scope are not many.

Leupold is my default, but theirs are $3000. Nightforce makes an NX8 for $1700 but thats a little steep for what I need I think, though I'm sure it's excellent. Vortex comes in either way above or way below my expecations. Swarovski and such are also well above.

Trijicon makes a 1-8 but people say the illuminated reticle washes out in daylight, so not sold there either.

I spend way too much time deliberating.

I don't know a lot about optics. I do know I'll never spend another dime on a Nightforce product.

Yuck. That is discouraging. Ever find a solution?

I want to take classes with this thing so that I can be confident to 500-600 yards, and can confidently take a hunting shot at 300 maybe 400. My scope needs to not disappoint me from 1 yard, up to those ranges and I'll be content.

Nightforce costumer service sucks. They had no interest in finding the problem. They said that there was no way their "high quality" scope could be doing what I said mine was doing, and they're company does not do exchanges. Their rep told me my one piece scope mount had to be defective, that I should bed the mount to my rifle with JB Weld, and that I should be torquing my scope cap rings to 25 instead of 15"/lbs.

The solution was to sell the Nightforce for a loss, and buy a March MAR1086.

ETA: If you want a scope which works from under 50 yards to 500-600 yards, you'll want something with adjustable parallax.

The March is the catsaass compared to the Nightforce. ;)

Good grief!

I'll be damned if jb weld ever touched a nice rifle...

The close up stuff is just my crazy idea of self defense on a pig, doubt the rifle ever has to make an urgent close shot.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Too many options out there to accept arrogant unhelpful service.
